PROFESSOR GEORGE M. PETROUTSOU M.D. Ph.D.

In February 1980 I received the title of Ophthalmologist at the General State Hospital of Athens and I was appointed to the Athens University Ophthalmology Clinic.

Since September 1980 and for three years, I worked in Paris, at the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Hôtel-Dieu Université Paris VI, the Broussais Hôtel-Dieu . This clinic is the largest cataract and transplant center in France and I have been specifically specialized in these subjects.

I have the titles of:
Chercheur I.N.S.E.R.M (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale) Groupe D' Ophtalmologie Unité 86.

Chercheur C.N.R.S (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) Unité 118.

Maître de Conférences Agrégé des Universités a titre étranger. Professeur des Universités-Praticien Hospitalier a titre étranger.

After my three-year stay in France, I worked several times at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston.

I returned to Athens  in 1985 and I was appointed Assistant at the Athens Ophtalmiatrio Eye Clinic.

Since 1986 I worked at the University Hospital of Ioannina as Assistant Professor and subsequently as Associate Professor until 1992. I have been a member of the National Transplantation Committee.

In March 1987 I was elected Professeur des Universités-Praticien Hospitalier in Paris.

I have written 3 Doctorate and 50 foreign language scientific papers and more than 150 Greek ones. Most of them concern surgical and clinical issues.

I have obtained enormous surgical experience throughout my practice at the previous mentioned hospitals.

My main fields of practice: Cataract operation, Glaucoma, especially Trabeculoplasty,  Keratoconus,  Keratoplasty, Laser surgery for Hyperopia and Myopia, Corneal pathology, Herpes Simplex, Herpes Zoster, Dry Eye, Iridocyclitis and Pemphigoid.
